About Shared Ground
We are a Dutch think tank with an international outlook. In recent years, environmental and climate issues have become entangled in culture wars, overshadowing sound policy and limiting space for thoughtful debate.
At Shared Ground, we recognize that political polarization is part of today’s reality. We don’t shy away from the left–right divide — in fact, we see it as a terrain for a meaningful change. But care for the planet should not belong to any one political tradition, nor should it be reduced to a wedge issue in partisan struggles. That’s why Shared Ground exists: we provide a platform for constructive debate and, ultimately, for reconciliation around how we protect our home. We focus on research, policy proposals development and building a space for people to come together.
Shared Ground is a member of a network of organisations called Our Common Home, with the mission of building the common good for the environment.
The Role
Shared Ground is seeking an experienced Research Consultant in Latin America to lead a research programme on the values, beliefs, and attitudes of New Right voters in Argentina, Chile, and El Salvador. This research will form the foundation for Shared Ground’s policy development and political engagement strategy in the region.
The consultant will play a central role in designing and delivering mixed-methods research, including desk research, survey development, qualitative tools, data analysis, and synthesis of findings for both technical and non-technical audiences. The work will help identify how environmental and climate issues can be understood, discussed, and translated into policy proposals that resonate with audiences and political actors across the region.
This is a highly applied role for someone who combines strong analytical skills with political sensitivity, regional knowledge, and the ability to turn research into actionable insight.
Key Responsibilities
➔ Conduct desk research on public opinion and environmental policy acceptability in Latin America.
➔ Review existing literature and polling on policy preferences, values and attitudes related to environment, climate, nature, and energy in the region.
➔ Design research instruments, including questionnaires, interview guides, and discussion guides, for political and policy research.
➔ Develop sampling approaches and research briefs for quantitative and qualitative studies.
➔ Lead or support the analysis of survey, focus group, and interview data to generate policy-relevant insights.
➔ Produce clear, compelling written outputs, including research briefs, analytical memos, reports, and presentations.
➔ Translate complex research findings into practical recommendations for policy, strategy, and stakeholder engagement.
➔ Develop audience profiles and cross-country insights on New Right-aligned voters in Argentina, Chile, and El Salvador.
➔ Work with research vendors, polling firms, and other external partners to manage briefs, quality control, and feedback.
➔ Help maintain research repositories, archives, and data inventories to support ongoing analysis and programme delivery.
What You Will Bring
➔ 3–5 years of experience in public opinion research.
➔ Demonstrated experience with mixed-methods research, including both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
➔ Strong analytical skills and confidence working with structured and unstructured data.
➔ Experience using R for analysis is strongly preferred.
➔ Familiarity with data visualisation and communicating findings clearly to different audiences.
➔ Knowledge of Latin American politics and public opinion, with strong preference for candidates who have conducted research in Argentina, Chile, and/or El Salvador.
➔ Ability to translate data into clear, policy-relevant insights and recommendations.
➔ Excellent writing and communication skills.
➔ Fluency in English and Spanish.
Why Join Shared Ground?
➔ Work on a politically relevant and high-impact environmental programme.
➔ Help shape research that informs policy and public debate in Latin America.
➔ Join a flexible, remote-first organisation with an international outlook.
➔ Be part of a collaborative, values-driven team.
➔ Access training and development opportunities with leading experts.
➔ Receive competitive compensation within the non-profit sector.
Application Process
Shared Ground prioritises personal fit, judgment, and practical ability over formal credentials alone. If you do not meet every criterion listed above but believe you are a strong fit for the role, we still encourage you to apply.
The selection process will consist of two rounds of interviews. Candidates invited to the second round will be asked to complete a short assignment.
